Faculty of industrial technology
FIT prepares specialists in the field of Mechanical Engineering and Technologies with the self-confidence of the founder of the technical education in Bulgaria. Since 1945, the first academic year, till now they have been prepared many thousands of engineers having found professional realization in Bulgaria as well as in many other countries all over the world. FIT has been always a leading Bulgarian national center in the field of science, research, and practice.
Structure
Department "Materials Science and Technology"
The department leads education in the subjects “Science of Materials” and “Technology of materials” for the students of the Faculty of Automatics, Faculty of Electricity, Energy Mechanical Faculty, Mechanical Engineering Faculty, Faculty of Industrial Technologies, Faculty of Management and Transport Faculty. The lecturers of the department lead courses at the Faculty of German Engineering Education and Industrial Management and at the English Language Faculty of Engineering”.
At the department there are three laboratories: “Electrophysical Technologies for Thermal Treatment of the Metals”, “Mechanical Testing of the metals” and “Tribology”.;
Department "Technology of Machine Tools and Manufacturing"
The department lecturers educate students in Bulgarian, German, and French language students of 9 faculties (Faculty in industrial Technology, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Transport, Energy Mechanical Faculty, Economic Faculty of Management, Faculty of Computer Systems and Control, Faculty of Electronic Techniques and Technologies, Faculty of German Engineering Education and Industrial Management), of the subsidiary universities in Plovdiv, Sliven and of The College of Machine Engineering in the Technical University of Sofia. The total number of the leading subjects is more than 32 for BSc and 16 for MSc degrees.
There are two laboratories to the department:
-
• R&D Laboratory “Technological preparation of CNC machines”;
-
• Research Laboratory “Testing of industrial machinery, tools and equipment”.
Department "Theory of Mechanisms and Machines"
The lecturers from the department educate (in Bulgarian and English) students from 9 faculties of TU-Sofia (Faculty of Automatics, Faculty of Electricity, Energy Mechanical Faculty, Mechanical Engineering Faculty, Faculty of Industrial Technologies, Faculty of Management, and English Language Faculty of Engineering ) in 9 subjects for BSc degree and 5 subjects for MSc degree. The research fields at the department are the following:
- • structure-metrical synthesis and kinematic analysis; design of mechanisms, modules and means for automation;
-
• vibration, stability, vibro-insulation, vibro-protection;
-
• dynamical analysis and synthesis of machines;
-
• kinetic energy accumulators, dynamics of rotor machines;
-
• micro electro-mechanical systems (MEMS).
Student Activity
FIT educates students in BSc and MSc specialties in professional field 5.1 “Machine Engineering”. There are trained engineers (BSc) in three programs:
- Machine-Building Technologie and machinery (MTM) - to Class 2010;
- Industrial Technology (IT) - Class of 2011;
- Computer Aided Design and Technology in Machine-Building (CADTM);
- Advanced Industrial Technologies (in English) (BAIT).
The degree MSc is provided in two programs:
- Machine-Building Technology and Machinery (MTM) with four differ programs:
- Materials Science and Technology;
- Welding;
- Design of technology and engineering equipment;
- Innovation and maintenance of manufacturing.
- Computer Aided Design and Technology in Machine-Building (CADTM).
At FIT they are prepared more than 150 PhD theses, and at the present moment they are educated about 30 doctoral students.
Research
-
In recent years FIT is the leading faculty at TU-Sofia concerning the amount of performed research. Furthermore, in 2009, during the period of economic crisis, FIT indicates increasing financial results of research compared to the previous year. This ensures high level of qualification of the specialists and lecturers and guaranties the quality of education.
